Abstract Title:
Comparing three easy modalities in treatment of IGHResearch Interests:
Background: Idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis (IGH) is a common acquired skin condition characterized by multiple, discrete, well-defined, porcelain-white macules with sharp borders on extensor aspects of extremities. Various modalities have been tried time and again with different levels of results. Objective: This study aims at comparing three easy modalities in treatment of IGH.
Methods: 150 patients were included in the study out of which 138 have completed follow up. Three lesions of similar extent were selected in each patient. Each lesion was marked and treated individually by one modality as per procedure laid out. Results: Out of 138 patients treated by microneedling with 5-FU, 50% TCA and Cryotherapy, 119 patients had improvement in lesions treated with 5-FU, 13 patients had improvement with Cryotherapy and 6 patients had improvement with 50% TCA.
Conclusion: The study suggested that among all methods employed, 5-FU had the best response in repigmentation i.e. 86.2%. It can be utilized as sole treatment option without any side effects.
